Trump Calls for Israel and Iran to End Military Exchanges After Overnight Strikes

President Trump stated Monday that Israel and Iran should immediately halt their military actions. The remarks came after the two countries exchanged strikes overnight, marking the largest escalation since a ceasefire took effect on April 8.

Trump posted on Truth Social that Israel and Iran must stop shooting. The message followed reports that Iran had launched three waves of missiles toward Israel and that Israeli forces had struck truck-based surface-to-air launchers and petrochemical facilities inside Iran.

No casualties were reported in the exchange. Trump added in a separate post that both sides were seeking an immediate ceasefire, with final negotiations on a peace agreement underway subject to any interference. He stated that a blockade on Iranian ports would remain in place until a final deal is reached.

There was no indication that the United States would resume military operations against Iran. Iran’s joint military command announced it was halting offensive operations. The command stated that any further aggression by Israel or its supporters, including actions against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, would result in more severe measures.

Last week, Trump told The Post’s “Pod Force One” that the blockade against Iranian ports was unlikely to remain in place by Labor Day on September 7.

Explosions were reported in the Iranian cities of Isfahan, Karaj, Tabriz, and Tehran. Iranian state media reported that a petrochemical factory in Mahshahr had been struck. Israeli forces also hit a military center in Tabriz. Local officials in Tabriz said there were no casualties, according to Iran’s official IRNA news agency.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps stated that attacks on Israel’s Tel-Nof and Nevatim air bases were carried out as part of an operation named Nasr. The statement described the action as a response to prior Israeli missile strikes on radar sites. The IRGC Intelligence Organization characterized the overnight operations as fully successful.

Iran had warned on Sunday that it would respond after Israel struck Hezbollah targets in Beirut’s southern suburbs. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei stated that the United States bears responsibility for the Israeli actions and for any consequences of further escalation.

The exchanges have prompted precautionary measures in neighboring countries. Iraqi officials closed the country’s airspace for 72 hours. Damascus International Airport in Syria announced it would remain closed until 11 p.m. local time Monday. Israel’s airspace remained open.

Trump spoke to reporters aboard Air Force One on June 5 while traveling from Joint Base Andrews, Maryland, to Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Smoke was visible near the Mahshahr petrochemical complex following the reported strikes. Interception trails appeared in the sky over central Israel after the missile launches. A rocket was photographed in Jericho. Smoke was also reported in Itamar in the West Bank.

The sequence of events began with Israeli strikes on Hezbollah positions, followed by Iranian missile launches and Israeli counter-strikes on Iranian territory. Both sides have attributed their actions to prior attacks by the other. Iranian officials have linked the United States to Israeli decisions, while U.S. statements have focused on calls for de-escalation. No new U.S. military involvement has been announced. Negotiations referenced by Trump remain subject to the outcome of the current exchanges.
