June 11 (UPI) -- The 2026 FIFA World Cup will feature a record 48-team field, matches across three host countries and the final international appearances for several longtime national team players. Coverage of the tournament, which begins Thursday and runs through July 19, will be carried on Fox, FS1, Telemundo and Universo and streamed on the Fox Sports App and Fox One.
Spain enters the competition as the betting favorite to win the title. France, England, Portugal, Brazil and defending champion Argentina rank among the other leading contenders according to major oddsmakers. The United States sits outside the top 10 in most pre-tournament rankings.
Argentina forward Lionel Messi addressed the team’s outlook in remarks to reporters on Tuesday. “This group deserves everything that’s happening to us,” Messi said. “We’re going to give it our all, just as we always have. Let there be no doubt in anyone’s mind that we’ll give it our all, just as we all did and just as we’ve been doing all this time. Just as we always did whenever I was part of the national team.
