Mike Collins defeats Derek Dooley in Georgia Republican Senate primary runoff
June 17 (UPI) -- Rep. Mike Collins was projected Tuesday night to win Georgia's Republican Senate primary runoff, defeating former football coach Derek Dooley.
The Collins-Dooley race was the highest-profile contest on a primary night that included races across multiple states.
President Donald Trump endorsed Collins in the race. Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp endorsed Dooley. The contest drew attention because the winner will face Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff in November in a contest that could affect Senate control.

Trump endorsed Collins after early voting had concluded. Kemp had endorsed Dooley earlier.
In a separate Republican runoff for governor, Rick Jackson led Trump-endorsed Lt. Gov. Burt Jones. Unofficial results showed Jackson with 52.65% of the vote to Jones's 47%.
