Radio host Charlamagne tha God stated on Thursday that Dr. Anthony Fauci’s repeated invocations of the Fifth Amendment at a Senate hearing appeared suspicious in light of a prior presidential pardon. The comments came during an episode of the syndicated radio program “The Breakfast Club.”

Charlamagne said he did not understand the need for a pardon if no wrongdoing had occurred. “Now, listen, I’m stupid, OK? I just want y’all to know that. I will say I never understood why Dr. Fauci needed a pardon if there was no crime committed or nothing was done wrong,” he said. He added that the decision not to answer questions about allegations ranging from virus origins to vaccine mandates created an appearance of concern. “And when you think of every conspiracy theorist that accused him of everything from creating or covering up the virus, the profiting from mandates and vaccines, it does look suspicious that he won’t answer questions,” Charlamagne continued. He further remarked that truthful individuals should not fear being trapped by questions.

Co-hosts on the program countered that Fauci had followed legal counsel and that the Fifth Amendment invocations did not indicate malicious intent. Charlamagne responded by asking why a pardon had been issued at all. “Y’all don’t think it’s fishy that he got a pardon? Why did he need a pardon?” he said. He later repeated that a person with nothing to hide should be willing to answer questions directly.
